MIDDLE AYRSHIRES HAVE RED HOT TRADE AT BORDERWAY

ELEANOR TOPS AT 6,700GNS

The Whiteford family from Middle Farm near Brampton sold an outstanding group of cows from their impressive Ayrshire and Blended Red & White herd.  Years of expertise and astute breeding decisions was clearly evident when you viewed this herd of balanced dairy cows.  They were uniform with exceptional rumps and strong toplines and the strength of the feet and legs was at a high level and the quality of the udders was amazing.

Ayrshire breeders from across the UK and Ireland attended the sale both in person and online.  Buyers were recorded from nineteen counties with most selling for more than two thousand pounds with the overall average coming to just over £2200 per life.

Topping the sale at 6,700gns was a super fancy cow that had recently calved who was purchased by Mr Esquierdo from Ayrshire.  Middle Eleanor was sired by Middle Lord Winston and bred from a special line of sires including Middle Emjest, Sterndale Rose Royce Red and Des Chamois Pat Laro.  This stylish young cow will compete for top honours at ArgiScot in November.

One of the best uddered cows to sell at Borderway for some time sold for 5,800gns to John Hunter from N. Ireland.  Middle Hero had recently classified VG87 and was bred from an Excellent 92 Haresfoot Khan dam.  The Hunter family plan to show this exceptional individual at the Royal Ulster Winter Fair in Belfast this December.

One of the outstanding cow families over the years from the Middle herd has been the Jessie line and selling for 3,800gns was Middle Jessies CTHD who was sired by Cuthill Towers Highland Dream.  This fourth lactation cow was classified VG87 and bred from a Very Good 86 Haresfoot Khan dam.  She was purchased by David and Christine Sanderson from Wigton.

The Danforth family from Yorkshire purchased Middle Margot for 3,600gns.  She was sired by Middle Dixon and had recently calved in her fourth lactation.  Margot could be described as the ideal cow being medium in stature with close to perfect feet and legs and a super attractive udder.

The cow that featured on the back cover of the catalogue sold for 3,400gns, Middle Dora had classified very Good 87 in her third lactation and was sired by Middle Vitality again bred from a Very Good Haresfoot Khan dam.  She was purchases by the McCulloch family from near Stranraer who also purchased Middle Bessie for 3,400gns later on in the sale.
