About the Society
Formed in 1877, the Ayrshire Cattle Society of Great Britain and Ireland is a forward thinking, highly motivated breed society dedicated to keeping the Ayrshire at the forefront of modern dairying.
The Society functions are membership driven by participation at grass roots level through local club events, with a council of breeders overseeing policies, and with day to day operations managed by a small staff led by the Office Manager and Breed Secretary. A breed journal is published three times a year. The offices are based in Ayr and members and visitors are always welcome to call at the office.
The society is responsible for all ancestry recording in its computerised Herd Book and also the type classification scheme with the results contributing to linear proofs and type analysis for individuals as well as the whole population.
The marketing arm of the society, Cattle Services (Ayr) Ltd, provides a wide variety of Ayrshire genetics available at home and abroad. Please visit their website at www.cattleservices.org
An annual meeting and Conference is held each year in May at varying locations to which all members are invited to attend.
