Ayrshires Top 9000 gns at Acton Dispersal Sale

The dispersal of virtually the entire ACTON Herd of Ayrshires took place at Beeston Castle Auction on Friday, 9th September on behalf of John Tomlinson of Church Farm, Acton, Nantwich who was selling due to his current illness. What an amazing day it proved to be with incredible prices being achieved for animals in all age groups. The cattle were of the highest quality with many having great depth of pedigree; many too had graced the showring with considerable success which also helped to attract more people to the sale.

The Ayrshires topped at 9000 gns for the outstanding Acton Saltire Peggy (Ex92) (Ex94‐MS), the Breed Champion at Cheshire and Newport Shows this year. This outstanding daughter of Stevensons Saltire was milking with her third calf having calved in April and was PD’d back in‐calf to Rosehill Blackthorn; she was one of seven daughters of the fifteen year old Ashmansworth Peggy 191st (LP100) (Ex94‐6E) 3*, five of which were in the sale. The purchaser was Philip Williams of Leweston, Haverfordwest. The contending bidder for the Saltire was Tracey Martin of Torrington, Devon who was very keen to acquire a member of the Peggy family; she did not go home disappointed as she was the successful bidder of the second top seller purchasing Acton CBC Peggy (VG86‐3yr), a milking heifer who calved in June sired by Carnell Bright Crown, for 7100 gns. She is out of a (VG 85) Trident’s Lot daughter of the old Peggy cow. The third top seller was Acton Princess Poker (VG87) a July calved daughter of McCornick Nelson milking with her third calf and out of an (LP60) (Ex 90) daughter of Bankend Lord Ontario; she was purchased for 6100 gns by Steve Oultram for his Stamford Herd at Ewloe, Flintshire.

Four more Ayrshires broke the 3000 gns mark; at 3400 gns Geoff Benson of Tarporley purchased Acton Mandella  Peggy 2nd (VG85‐3yr); Jessie Bostock of Biddulph, Stoke‐on‐Trent purchased the beautiful fresh calved, Brieryside Jubilant Scot daughter, Acton Jubilant Punch (VG86‐3yr) for 3200 gns whilst another by the same bull, Acton Jubilant Rita (VG85‐3yr) sold for 3100 gns to Blaise Tomlinson for his Sandyford Herd at Nanpantan, Leicestershire. The fourth of this group, Acton Nelson Heather Honey (VG88) (Ex91‐MS) sold for 3000 gns to I G & H M E Jones & Sons of Carmarthen.  The top price young heifer was 2600 gns for Acton Diego Punch sired by Maple Dell Modem Diego purchased by DB & CA Walters of Carmarthen.
